The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County (AWL) will be set up at the Walmart in Brownsburg this weekend for a special adoption event. 15 dogs and 15 cats will be available for adoption on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Adoption fees are waived, however approved applications are required. RSVPs are encouraged but not required, and can be made by clicking or tapping here.
“We’ve partnered with Best Friends Animal Society multiple times in the past,” said Abbie Horn, the shelter manager for the AWL in Montgomery County. “We were grateful enough to receive a grant last year worth $20,000 to help start pilot programs at the shelter. They’ve helped us waive our dog adoption fees last year, and also helped start a pilot program for getting community cats fixed and return to their communities.”
Horn has been with the AWL for almost two-and-a-half years. She first started as an animal control officer in October 2023 before starting her current role as shelter manager.
“I was happy to transition knowing that I would get the opportunity to help many lives – both animal and human,” Horn said.
Horn stopped by the studio to talk about the event and current happenings going on at the AWL. Listen to the full interview below.
Currently, the Animal Welfare League is at overcapacity, with almost 60 dogs and 150 kittens and cats available for adoption. To learn more, check out their Facebook page here. You can also visit their website here.
