Four suspects have been apprehended following an early morning ATM machine heist at the Fountain Trust Bank branch at 1700 E. Main Street in Crawfordsville.
According to a press release from the City of Crawfordsville, the ATM machine was ripped from its concrete foundation at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The four suspects, who were identified as individuals from Louisiana and Texas, tried to force open the ATM using a stolen pickup truck. When all attempts were unsuccessful, the suspects allegedly chained the ATM machine to the truck’s rear bumper, dragging it across a neighboring parking lot.
The suspects fled using another vehicle as officers arrived, later crashing near Interstate 74. All four occupants then attempted to flee on foot. They were all quickly arrested with the help of a K9 unit and a drone operated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. They were transported to Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville for medical evaluations.
The occupants were booked into the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement with endangerment, criminal mischief, auto theft, and organized theft; all of which are felonies. Each suspects were identified as 22-year-old Kevon M. Sloan; 21-year-old Ernest N. Brown; and 23-year-old Jacoby K. Arceneaux. The fourth suspect was a juvenile.
According to workers at the Fountain Trust Bank, the ATM machine was brand new, having been installed in recent months. It is unknown how much money was initially stolen. Drive-thru ATM services have been halted indefinitely until it’s been replaced.
Due to the incident involving a financial institution, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assisting with the investigation.
