Lane Place joins thousands in reading of Declaration of Independence

The Montgomery County Historical Society hosted a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on the front lawn Wednesday evening. This is in commemoration of the first public reading of the Declaration on July 8, 1776, from the former State House in Philadelphia, PA. The Society joined thousands of other institutions across the country in the simultaneous reading, which began at 6:00 PM EST.

The featured speakers of the evening included Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton; Crawfordsville Middle School language arts teacher Seth Nunan; North Montgomery Middle School social studies teacher Jodi Webster; South Montgomery High School dual credit biology teacher Tony Gonczarow; and Wabash College Assistant Professor of English Jill Lamberton.

The full ceremony can be heard at the top of the article.
